The Shed Melbourne offers an experienced maker’s workshop for independent instructors, artists, and professionals looking to run their own classes. We provide the space, benches, and select tools — you manage your own participants, schedule, and class content.

Please note: We do not advertise or promote third-party classes. This service is strictly for instructors with their own audience and insurance.

Who Is This For?

This workshop hire is designed for experienced, responsible instructors who want access to a professional, fully equipped space to run their own classes or workshops.

You’re a good fit if you:

  • Are a professional maker, artist, craftsperson, or instructor with some experience leading groups.

  • Have current Public Liability Insurance suitable for running classes in a workshop environment.

  • Can manage bookings, payments, and class content independently.

  • Are comfortable supervising participants, including beginners, in a working workshop.

  • Understand and respect workshop boundaries, tools, and safety protocols.

  • Have a passion for sharing your skills, spreading your knowledge, or helping others gain hands-on experience in your craft.

**This type of booking isn’t suitable for casual hobby sessions, one-off “try-it” classes, or groups without appropriate insurance. It’s also not suitable for anyone expecting The Shed Melbourne to manage bookings, promotion, or class content. Participants should be properly supervised by the instructor, and bookings are for commercial, instructor-led classes only.**

Who Can Book?

Bookings are open to individuals or businesses who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must provide proof of current Public Liability Insurance.

  • Must agree to our Workshop Hire Terms & Conditions, which include indemnity and safety obligations.

  • Must operate as an independent instructor; The Shed Melbourne is not responsible for your participants.

**First-time hirers will include a short orientation session as part of their booking to ensure familiarity with the workshop layout, tools, and safety protocols.**

Workshop Hire Options

We offer flexible workshop hire depending on the level of space and tool access required:

1. Bench Only

• Access to 8 workshop workbench’s approx 2400mm x 900mm (each bench has a working bench vice)

• Minimum 3 hours

2. Bench + Hand Tools

• Access to 8 workshop workbench’s approx 2400mm x 900mm (each bench has a working bench vice), as well as use of approved hand tools.

• Minimum 3 hours

3. Full Workshop

• Access to the full workshop, including machines

• Minimum 6 hours

• Available only for instructors approved to manage higher-risk sessions

2. Approval & Info Pack

• Once your application is reviewed, we’ll send a comprehensive package including pricing, hire terms, safety requirements, and legal obligations.

3. Book Your Session

• Approved instructors receive a private booking link to schedule and pay for their workshop hire. Your first booking will include a short orientation to the space.
