Introducing Our Tutors
Tom King
Tom is a guitar maker/repairer/teacher based in Melbourne, Australia.
Tom studied luthiery in the Netherlands at De Haan Guitars’ Dutch School of Guitar Making, where he later returned as an instructor and developed his passion for teaching. Closer to home, he worked for several years with Cole Clark Guitars where he developed an appreciation for Australia's incredible native tonewoods. Tom’s background as a Materials Engineer has also helped him experiment with uncommon materials and novel build techniques.
Since starting at TSM Tom has expanded his knowledge and skill base to be a masterful furniture maker, recently receiving notable mentions in the Wood Review Maker of the year awards.

Ricky Wood
Hi, I’m Ricky Wood, the owner and operator of both The Shed Melbourne and Ricky Wood Design. I’m passionate about creating spaces and experiences where creativity meets craftsmanship.
At The Shed Melbourne, I’ve built a community hub for makers of all levels to access tools, machinery, and materials, while honing their skills.
Through Ricky Wood Design, I bring that same dedication to detail and quality into custom woodworking projects, turning ideas into beautifully crafted pieces. My focus is always on combining functionality with design, and sharing the joy of making along the way.
