The Shed Melbourne is a workshop that invites people form all walks of life into our workshop to design, create and learn woodworking and furniture making.
We are a place of inclusion, welcoming everyone into our space with guided furniture making classes, intensive guitar making classes and individual private tutorial sessions.
Beginners Woodworking Classes
A 8-week of practical & applied lessons with guided workshop sessions at The Shed Melbourne. Participants will learn how to design and build their own piece of hardwood furniture from start to finish, using recycled, reclaimed and sustainably sourced timber from local affiliated timber yards in Melbourne.
Intro into woodworking - set project
Get a taste of the workshop without having to worry about purchasing timber or coming up with a design. We’ve done all that for you in this 8 week intro class. Move at a slower steady pace compared to our beginners and complete this beautiful record cabinet. .
Chopping Board Masterclass
Show off at your next dinner party with your very own handmade chopping, charcuterie or cheese board. Learn the art of hardwood timber chopping board making at The Shed Melbourne. Guided by one of our amazing tutors, participants select their timber, practice measuring, cutting, laminating, sanding, as well as finishing techniques, and are left with custom-hand made board along with a tub of our very own chopping board beeswax. This class is run on random Sundays throughout the year. Once a class is full we’ll pop up the next one until we run out of Sundays.
Guitar Making @ The Shed Melbourne
The Shed Melbourne’s unique Electric Guitar Making course, make your very own Tele-style electric guitar with the guidance of our tutor and guitar-making gun, Tom King. Our 30 hour course will walk you through the basics of electric guitar making, with no prior experience necessary. Students will learn to make the guitar body, design a custom headstock, practice their fretwork and get familiar with some basic wiring.

Here at The Shed we understand that everyone is different, wether you work or live on a different schedule to others or you just learn differently. We as a community want everyone to be involved in woodworking as much as possible. If you’ve looked over our site and think that maybe you aren’t able to commit to a full length course, worried about your ability within the workshop or want a more tailored experience, we have just the thing for you!
